Sun City Appoints New General Manager
Johannesburg, 11 February 2020 – Sun International has announced that it has appointed Brett Hoppé to the position of General Manager for its Sun City resort.
Hoppé is no stranger to Sun City, having previously served as the Resort’s General Manager of the Soho Hotel (formerly the Sun City Hotel and Casino) between 2008 until 2011, and as Acting Director of Operations at the North West Resort until 2012. He left Sun City to take over the position of Complex GM of the Boardwalk and Fish River Sun in the Eastern Cape.
In 2013, Hoppé was appointed to manage the opening of Sun International’s prestigious R4.2 billion Time Square Casino, Arena and Hotel development in Pretoria. Time Square Casino, which opened in April 2017, is the biggest casino in Gauteng and is second in size only to Sun International’s GrandWest Casino in Cape Town.
Sun International CEO, Anthony Leeming said: “During Brett’s 29 years of working for the Group, he has gained enormous knowledge of our operations. His previous experience at Sun City coupled with his commitment and passion make him the natural choice for the position. On behalf of the Group, I would like to congratulate Brett and to wish him well in his new role.”
Hoppé has held numerous positions at the company, including that of Director of Sales and Marketing for the Group during the development of the Port Ghalib Resort for the M.A.Kharafi Group in Marsa Alam, Egypt as well as a stint as International Sales and Marketing Manager for the group. He completed his gaming studies at the University of Nevada in Reno.
“I am honoured to be given the opportunity to manage such a flagship property. Sun City and its people is an intrinsic part of Sun International’s history, and I feel especially privileged to be assuming responsibility as Sun City’s celebrates its 40th anniversary”, said Hoppé.
