Travel creates loads of unexpected adventures and it will fill your soul, as you experience a diverse range of cultures and new destinations. South Africa is filled with great vibes and whether you are taking a road trip down the Garden Route, celebrating the maze of wine routes in the Western Cape or just chilling on the beach in Durban, our homeland has an all-around natural beauty that is in a class of its own.
Jozi
Not only is Johannesburg South Africa’s biggest city, but it’s an urban hub bursting with quirky districts, stirring history and corporate yuppies always on the go as they hustle to contribute to the Jozi jungle that offers safari experiences just an hour away. The city offers travellers the opportunity to venture into renewed neighbourhoods, where there are plenty of places to visit, at which eat and drink, and markets to explore. Take a bike tour around Soweto to see where Nelson Mandela once lived. Bungee jump from the Orlando Towers or visit the many of museums, such as the Apartheid Museum, which offers for a thought provoking experience like no other. Go all-out cosmopolitan in some of the hippest and happening suburbs like Melville, Linden and Parkhurst as you indulge in some of the proudly South African nightlife. For something a little bit more on the wild side, visit the Lion and Safari Park or the Johannesburg Zoo. Either way, there’s a wealth of experiences on offer whilst you take a break in Jozi.
Durbs
Durbs is Africa’s busiest port and South Africa’s third largest city with a mesmeric overtone of cultures mixed with Indian spice. Think Indian Ocean, warm water and relaxing on the beach, move more inland to discover the heart of the Zulu culture and the beauty of the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands or go on the ultimate hiking adventure in the majestic Drakensberg mountains. Get moving in South Africa’s fittest city with loads of recreational activities on offer, such as biking, fishing or just getting your surf on. The region is renowned for one of the world’s toughest marathons, the Comrades, after all, which is held annually between Durban and Pietermaritzburg.
Cape Town
Cape Town is definitely the city in South Africa with international appeal and you might just feel like you’re in a different country as it attracts millions of international tourists every year. The iconic Table Mountain, the V&A Waterfront precinct, the verdant Winelands and spectacular white beaches are just a few of the attractions that this buzzing city has on offer. Take the cable car up the mountain or hike up Lion’s Head under the watchful eye of a full moon. Watch penguins waddling along Boulders Beach or catch a glimpse of the whales in the surf at Hermanus. Whatever you do, don’t leave your holiday in Cape Town without sampling some of its internationally-renowned wine and cuisine.
George
George is perhaps best known as the gateway to one of our county’s most famous and best road trips, the Garden Route. High on the must-see lists for most visitors is the annual flower show in October when it’s in full bloom. Stretching 300km you will find magnificent landscapes as you take a drive from Mossel Bay in the west to Storms River in the east. The range of topography, vegetation, wildlife and outdoor activities is extraordinary. On the coast you’ll find some of the best beaches in South Africa, while inland you’ll find scenic lagoons and lakes, rolling hills and lastly the mountains of the Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma ranges that divide the verdant Garden Route from the Little Karoo.
