Smartphone Technology Driving Design and Accessibility of New Website
The Townhouse Hotel & Conference Centre has launched its new website that puts guests’ and site visitors’ increasing usage of tablets and smartphones at the heart of its design and accessibility.
The new website was launched last Friday 2nd August and includes a platform for social media interaction – a nod to the increasingly tech-savvy sensibilities of the hotel’s guests. Jacqueline Williams, general manager of the hotel, remarked: “We live in a fast-paced digitally-evolving world and we want to be sure that our website meets the needs and expectations of visitors to our site.
“We’ve designed the new website with the tablet and smartphone-user in mind: it’s visually-led with striking photography and we want users to be able to share information about the hotel across social media platforms and review sites. The functionality enables this.”
Since the hotel is located in the heart of Cape Town and is a firm favourite for business travellers, parliamentary visitors and conference delegates during the week and appeals to leisure travellers on the weekend and holidays, the site includes links for “What to do” in the city and its surrounds and a downloadable walking map of the central CBD. Popular tourist attractions, places of interest, museums, the V&A Waterfront and scenic walking routes are included and help visitors feel at home and able to navigate their way through the city streets.
Williams adds: “This ‘Home from Home’ ethos is very important to us. The new website photography showcases our staff as members of a caring, genuinely hospitable family. We want all our guests to feel welcome and wonderfully cared for when they stay with us; they are part of the Townhouse family, after all.”
