Ride for Paul – Heia Safari Ranch

The next Jozi Night Rider MTB Series will be held at Heia Safari Ranch on 19 April in memory of  Paul Schulte who was tragically killed earlier this month. All mountain biking enthusiasts are encouraged to participate.

Paul had worked tirelessly over the last year in creating 20km of interesting mountain biking tracks throughout the Heia Safari property. The inaugural ride last month was very successful and the culmination of a dream Paul had so passionately held.

Gaby Burgmer, owner of Heia Safari Ranch says, “This is such a difficult time for the family and it will be wonderful if there can be support for a venture that was so close to Paul’s heart. It will also be an opportunity for people to stand together as a community against crime,” says Gaby. Burgmer says Paul’s vision was to create an activity which would really showcase the beauty of the area and appeal to the whole family.

To this end, the race on Friday 19th will now also include a 20km women’s only ride at 16:30; a 3km kiddies ride at 18:00 and then the 20km night ride main race which starts at 18:30 and a 10km night ride which starts at 18:45.

The single track and jeep track trails are great for cyclists presenting a combination of rolling hills and wide open spaces plus the unexpected addition of a variety of game including giraffe, zebra and various antelope species to greet you along the way.

Race organiser, Darren Herbst says the route is extremely well marshalled and lit at key areas to ensure the safety of riders. There is also a secure monitored kiddies area so parents can enjoy the race, live entertainment, bonfires, great food and other features while their little ones are looked after. “We encourage as many riders and spectators to join us and celebrate the incredible work Paul has done,” says Darren.
