Nanyuki, Kenya – Ol Pejeta Conservancy has won not one, not two, but THREE awards at this year’s Ecotourism #EcoWarriorAwards! Held at the Radisson Blu Hotel on 27th September 2017, Ol Pejeta staff were delighted to receive the Overall Award, as well as the awards for ‘Protecting Life on Land’ and ‘Decent work and Economic Growth’.
The awards were based on how businesses and organisations incorporate the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals in meeting the needs of local people and nature. Ol Pejeta has won the Private Conservancy of the Year award in 2012, 2015 and 2016.
The awards recognise Kenyan tourism initiatives with good practices that have infused distinct Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into their operations and can positively demonstrate and report tangible outcomes. In a world where resources are increasingly scarce, innovation is essential to ensure we are able to continue protecting and preserving biodiversity, whilst balancing the needs and interests of communities.

Congratulations must also go to El Karama Eco-Lodge who won the category for Sustainable Consumption and Production. Laikipia has had a hard year and it is very encouraging that we continue to flourish despite these difficulties. The runners-up in each of the categories were; Northern Rangelands Trust and Sirikoi Lodge for Decent Work and Safarilink Aviation and Gamewatchers Safaris for Life on Land.
