New Coworking Space Launched in Johannesburg

The first Perch Co-Working Space in South Africa opened its doors in Rosebank, Johannesburg to a thriving business, freelance, creative and professional community. The brainchild of the Grapnel Property Group, Perch Rosebank is part of a global network of co-working communities in North America and Europe that are revolutionizing workspaces.

Perch Rosebank is located on 37 Bath Avenue, just outside the Rosebank Mall, a stone’s throw away from both Jan Smuts Avenue and Oxford Road.

“We are very excited about this new business and cannot wait for Johannesburg and the rest of the country to engage and experience it. Perch Rosebank will be the ultimate workspace not only for those looking for a dynamic working environment but also for those looking to meet people to collaborate with in existing and new work. We are taking charge in setting a pace in the Johannesburg business landscape by running mixers, events, host communities and other engagement platforms to facilitate collaborative working amongst Johannesburg entrepreneurs, small business owners and professionals,” said Justin Bass of Perch Rosebank.

“Over the last couple of years, co-working has grown to attract the attention of established businesses and corporates, to the point that in the USA alone, about 50% of co-working space members are employed professionals. A lot of this growth has been in response to the need for entrepreneurship within organisations, thanks to startups setting a new tone of business worldwide. Perch Rosebank is looking to bring this flair to Johannesburg, the economic hub of South Africa. People are welcome to pop in – be it the nomadic worker who has a non-committal relationship with workspaces; or the employed professional who is partial to a dynamic workspace where collaboration is the order of the day,” Bass concluded.

Perch Rosebank is accessible to a membership community who subscribe on a monthly basis, and it is also open to walk-ins through day passes and week passes. The premises are open five days a week, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and include high-speed Wi-Fi, office services like printing, locker facilities and ample parking space. Users of Perch Rosebank will have access to hideaway private workspaces, state of the art meeting rooms with video conferencing facilities. In time, biometric access will allow for members to use the premises for up to 24 hours a day, including weekends.

Perch Rosebank was tastefully designed by GLH Architects who hand-picked every single item of furniture – from the rugs to the desks and tables, the ergonomic swivel chairs and stools. The premises are well positioned and receive plenty natural light, making it a breeze to work from any part of the space. Perch Rosebank has teamed up with Clipboard Society Café who run the coffee shop on the premises, serving beverages and light meals.

The difference between Perch Rosebank and surrounding shared workspaces is that Perch Rosebank is not just a shared workspace, nor is it just a hot-desking space. While it meets this need, Perch Rosebank will facilitate co-working amongst Johannesburg’s professionals on a regular basis. In time, a number of events will be hosted to facilitate collaborative working. The team at Perch has planned:

  • Friday Sundowners, a sponsored mixers event that will open Perch’s doors to the neighbouring community for networking on Friday late afternoons into the evening.
  • Monthly speed networking events – nothing beats a well-organized networking event for new business opportunities.
  • A series of various quarterly events hosted by Perch Rosebank and various partners

All of this will culminate into a thriving community of passionate entrepreneurs, freelancers, consultants and professionals alike who work together and support each other.
