Must-see attraction in Cape Town these holidays
No trip to the Mother City is complete without a personal tour of the Cape Town Diamond Museum, where local and international tourists are invited for a unique experience to explore, discover and learn about the world’s most precious gem – the diamond.
With origins over three billion years ago, the Cape Town Diamond Museum pays homage to the extraordinary story and history of diamonds, and how South Africa’s contribution to that history changed the world’s diamond industry forever. All of these stories are told with insight, originality, sophistication and style.
The entire journey of diamonds is followed, from how they were created billions of years ago deep beneath the earth’s surface, where they were first discovered, how they are cut and polished, and finally to the enchanting ring on your finger.
Exact replicas of the world’s most famous diamonds, such as the 3106 ct rough Cullinan Diamond, the 10.73 ct polished yellow Eureka Diamond, the 45.52 ct blue Hope Diamond and the 545.67 ct yellow Golden Jubilee to name a few, can be admired first-hand at the museum. Visitors also have the unique opportunity to dress up in mining gear and walk through a replica mine shaft, complete with realistic sound and lighting.
The diamond cutting and polishing process can be viewed first-hand at the museum, making it the perfect place to visit – whether you are a diamond aficionado or simply just appreciate the perfect beauty of these magnificent gems.
The Cape Town Diamond Museum can be found in the heart of the famous Clock Tower precinct at the lively V&A Waterfront, conveniently close to the gateway of the celebrated Robben Island. Now it’s even more convenient to visit the museum with the newly renovated underground parking and ‘drop and go’ facility at the Clock Tower.
The Cape Town Diamond Museum is open seven days a week from 9am to 9pm.
