International Media Experience Madiba Magic
A media delegation from Central Europe received the first-hand experience of some Madiba Magic during their visit to South Africa this week.
The delegation, hosted by South African Tourism, were treated to experiences and attractions that have strong historical and social ties to the late Nelson Mandela’s life. The timing of the visit was also significant as South Africa celebrated its first democratic elections in April 1994. Added to this, 2018 is the year in which South Africa commemorates the Mandela Centenary – former President Nelson Mandela (fondly known as Madiba) would have celebrated his 100th birthday this year.
“Tourism is one of South Africa’s most important economic drivers and growth areas. Media hostings such as this one, are part of South African Tourism’s efforts to market South Africa as a preferred destination for both leisure travel and business events. Members of media are critical partners in sharing South Africa’s multiple tourism experiences,” said Sthembiso Dlamini, Chief Operations Officer at South Africa Tourism.
The media were also introduced to the Madiba’s Journey App, which allows users to view the attractions on a map, build their itineraries and share their own journeys on social media. Users can also experience the emotion and relevance of each location through audio, text and image galleries. The app also offers real-time weather information, distances and details of nearby attractions.
“From vibrant and colourful city lifestyle; to insight into the history and culture; our warm and unique people; to tastings at our world-renowned wine farms, South Africa has it all. Through this particular hosting, we look forward to creating memories and sharing the legacy of one of Africa’s greatest treasures,” concludes Dlamini.
Germany in South African Tourism’s third biggest source market and is part of the Central Europe hub which includes Austria and Switzerland.
