Israeli Outbound Market to Africa Growth
Increased interest by Israelis for travel to Africa & The Indian Ocean Islands is making this market an attractive proposition for Africa based travel and tourism professionals. By Derek Houston.
Last year 26,000 Israelis visited South Africa and 6,000 travelled to Kenya. Israel has also become a prime target market for Tanzania and in particular, Zanzibar with 20,000 arrivals recorded.
During 2018, 7.9 million overseas trips were made by Israelis – a 12 per cent increase compared to 2017. These trips were made by 4.1 million Israelis of which 2.2m travelled once and 1.9m twice or more. Considering that the total population of Israel is only 9 million, this means that almost half of Isreal’s population travelled abroad in 2018.
Air access from Africa to Israel has also increased recently, with Rwandair and Air Seychelles having started flights to Tel Aviv while Ethiopian Airlines flies daily from Addis to Tel Aviv.
This increased interest by Israelis for travel to Africa & The Indian Ocean Islands has prompted Houston Travel Marketing (HTM) to arrange a Spotlight Workshop in Tel Aviv, scheduled for 30 March 2020.
HTM has teamed up with PITA Marketing – Israel’s leading Tourism Marketing Company to organise this one day workshop. A maximum of twenty exhibitors from Africa/Indian Ocean will be invited to participate on 20 Round-Robin sessions with leading Israeli outbound tour operators, wholesalers, and incentive travel DMC’s who sell Africa.
Approximately 30-40 trade delegates are expected to attend representing 20-25 companies. The full-day workshop will be followed by a networking cocktail party which will also be attended by Israeli travel press.
