In Memoriam: David Munton 1936–2020
Cape Town, 22 January 2020 – The travel industry joins City Sightseeing South Africa in mourning the passing of their Co-founder and Director, David Munton, this morning.
At 83, David Munton was well known in the South African tourism industry and contributed greatly to the tourism transport sectors’ development. David was always willing to assist fellow operators with permitting issues and his expertise in this field was willingly shared on many occasions.
“During my time on the Board of the Southern Africa Tourism Services Association (SATSA), we often called on David’s expertise while dealing with the DoT (Department of Transport) and Tour Operator permitting issues,” said TourismTattler’s publisher, Desmond Langkilde. “David was always willing to fly up to Johannesburg at short notice and his knowledge and advice were invaluable.”
David was born in York, England and later made Cape Town, South Africa his home. In 2002, along with Claus Tworeck, he co-founded the City Sightseeing open-top bus company which today has offices in Cape Town and Johannesburg.
“A memorial service is being planned and details will be announced shortly,” said Mandi Jarman, at City Sightseeing.
