FEDHASA Cape Awards Student Bursaries
CAPE TOWN, South Africa, 26 October 2018 – As part of FEDHASA Cape’s on-going efforts to develop young professionals in the hospitality industry and grow the sector in Cape Town, the association has announced its 2018 bursary recipients in several categories.
FEDHASA Cape chairman Jeff Rosenberg says the bursary categories include the association’s annual Youth Bursary, the Hospitality Leadership Bursary, both awarded by FEDHASA Cape, as well as the Alumni Bursary – an extension of the Hospitality Leadership Bursary.
“We’re 100 per cent committed to our objective to support transformation in the hospitality industry and to nurture and develop young industry professionals. We believe that these bursaries will provide the stepping stone they need to set their careers on the right path,” Rosenberg says.
FEDHASA Cape named Megan de Klerk, a second-year Hospitality Management and Business Administration student at Varsity College, as the recipient of the Youth Bursary. The scholarship will cover her tuition fees and gives her the opportunity to secure the third and final year of her studies. The funds for this bursary were raised at an auction at the FEDHASA Cape Annual Golf Day earlier this year.
Meanwhile, Fisani Mncube, hotel manager at Fancourt Hotel was awarded the 2018 FEDHASA Cape Leadership bursary for the recently completed UCT Graduate School of Business (GSB) Hospitality Leadership Programme. This programme focusses specifically on the nuances of hospitality leadership honing in on and developing leadership and strategic skills industry leaders need in order to thrive in the hospitality sector. Rosenberg says recipients were selected based on industry experience, academic capability, and influence in the industry.
“We are thrilled to be making a long-term contribution to the careers of these deserving candidates, who find themselves at various stages of their professional journeys. We are exceptionally proud of them and look forward to seeing them grow,” Rosenberg says.
Rosenberg also congratulated Ndaba Dube, chairperson of the FEDHASA Cape’s Young Professionals segment, who received UCT GSB’s Hospitality Leadership Alumni Bursary. The opportunity will allow him to build on his vast skills set and grow as a young professional in the hospitality industry.
