After celebrating 21 years of acclaimed accolades and recognition since opening doors to the golfing fraternity worldwide, Fancourt has announced that entries for what is to be celebrated as THE ‘21st successive Amateur Open’, are now officially open. Hailed as one of the most popular events on golfing calendars, amateurs both locally and abroad are invited to swing into form during this annual tournament held in South Africa’s Garden Route golfing mecca, from 15-20 May 2016.
The open tournament will incorporate one round on each of the renowned Links and Outeniqua courses, and two rounds on the Montagu course, all of which have garnered praise from the international golfing community from all around the world. The Scottish inspired Links course has recently been ranked once again as the top Golf Course in South Africa by Golf Digest South Africa, whilst the sprawling parkland courses of Montagu and Outeniqua were ranked at 7th place and 16th place respectively in the same publication, meaning that rounds on each of these courses is an exciting opportunity, and not always an option, for every player.
There will be three divisions including Medal for A Division (handicaps 0-9), Individual Stableford for B Division (handicaps 10-18), and a separate Ladies Division. Sponsored by Adams, Taylor Made, Beacon Island, Cutter & Buck, Ernie Els Wines, Zebula Golf Estate and Spa, and Fancourt themselves, the tournament offers over 72 holes of play with a practice round included, and will operate under Nomads scoring and handicapping system.
For some, playing in the Amateur Open is a ritual, as is staying at the hotel itself where many ‘old friends’ reconnect during the five day period. This year Fancourt have prepared a fully inclusive package in full celebration of their 21st celebrations. For just R10 326.00 per person sharing and R12 531.00 per single room, golfers can enjoy five nights’ accommodation with daily breakfast, three dinner functions with entertainment, and five x 18 holes of play, including their tournament entry and giveaways. Prizes and trophies will be awarded daily for all divisions.
