Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 10 March 2019 – Ethiopian Airlines has confirmed that its flight ET 302/10 March in schedule service from Addis Ababa to Nairobi was involved in an accident today around Bishoftu (Debre Zeit).
All 149 passengers and 8 crew members died in the accident. The victims were of 35 Nationalities.
The aircraft, a Boing-737-800MAX with registration number ET- AVJ took off at 08:38 am

A senior captain named Yared Getachew with over 8000 cumulative flight hours and a commendable performance record was commanding the flight, along with first officer Ahmed Nur Mohammod Nur who had over 200 flight hours.
The crashed B-737-800MAX aeroplane, which flew back to Addis from Johannesburg this morning to its flight bound to Nairobi, had undergone rigorous first check maintenance on February 04, 2019.
A committee comprising of Ethiopian Airlines, Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority, and Ethiopian Transport Authority has been set up to carry out the investigations. Once the identities of the deceased are identified, their bodies will be delivered to their families and loved ones.
