Ten Northern Cape establishments have already entered the prestigious 2014 Lilizela Tourism Awards and tourism role players still have until Sunday, 29 June, to enter their establishments for this service excellence award. Members of the public then have until 13 July to vote for their favourite tourism business.
The Lilizela Tourism Awards was established in 2013 and celebrate global excellence in tourism focusing on service excellence, emerging tourism entrepreneurship and sustainable tourism development. This joint initiative between South African Tourism and the Tourism Grading Council honours and celebrates those who make a remarkable impact on tourism in South Africa.
According to Sharron Lewis, CEO of the Northern Cape Tourism Authority, they would like to encourage more tourism sector categories to enter. “Over 400 entries have been received from around the country, but I would like to call on Northern Cape business to make use of this incredible opportunity. The Lilizela Awards acknowledge and award businesses that contribute in making South Africa a competitive global destination through their passion and commitment. This is the chance for the tourism industry in the Northern Cape to stand up and be counted as well. The rewards can be incredible and include exposure on a national and international level and I would like to urge our local industry to become part of this great initiative,” mentions Lewis.
Recognising the contribution of tourism to the provincial economy, the tourism authority has vigorously supported the establishment and growth of tourism entrepreneurs in the province. “As a destination marketing agency, we have actively promoted service excellence and strongly emphasised service delivery and standards of excellence amongst our tourism service providers. We have realised that these aspects form the crux of a successful tourism destination and we have to be able to deliver if we want to compete not only locally, but globally,” explains Lewis.
The Lilizela Awards cover several categories, including accommodation awards, visitor experience of the year, tourist guides, sustainable development and entrepreneurship. Entry is free and can be submitted online at www.2014.lilizela.co.za. Members of the public can vote for their tourism favourites online and entrants are encouraged to canvas for votes amongst their clients.
