Countdown to Winter Fly Fishing Competition
Muldersdrift, Wednesday 07 June 2017 – The 6th Annual Kloofzicht/SFA Winter Fly Fishing Competition and Open Day is to take place on 23 July 2017 at Kloofzicht Lodge & Spa in Gauteng, South Africa.
“We are counting down the days until 60 enthusiastic souls brave the chilly Sunday morning and descend on Kloofzicht & Spa for the Sixth Annual Winter Flyfishing Competition,” says Wayne Sinclair, owner of Sundowner Fly Fishing Adventures and coordinator of the event.
The competition is regarded as the premium trout fly fishing competition in Gauteng and is regarded as one of the top fly fishing events in South Africa. Kloofzicht Lodge & Spa is located in the Cradle of Mankind World Heritage area has a truly picturesque setting and overlooks the pristine Kloofzicht Lake and the rugged Swartkop Mountains.
Competitors are welcomed with coffee and snacks then proceed to register. Fishing beats are randomly drawn and then competitors move an allocated number of beats between each session so that each person gets an opportunity to fish on the prime spots. Entrants are divided into three categories which include Men’s, Ladies and Junior’s and everyone qualifies for the trout and species sections.
“Fly fishing is a rapidly growing sport and it was reassuring to see such a wide variety of people participating in this event last year. The dams are well stocked with trout but it is known as a venue where fishers have to work for their fish. All fishing is on a catch-and-release basis,” says Sinclair.
One of the main attractions of the competition is the wonderful spirit and comradery between the competitors. There are always a lot of laughs and sharing of techniques and tactics. A highlight every year are the various celebrities that join-in and guests can fish along with their favourite sports star, model or radio/TV personality.
The food is a highlight at Kloofzicht Lodge & Spa and participants are treated to tasty tea/coffee and snacks on arrival and a delectable buffet lunch once the morning fishing sessions are completed.
“We were honoured to support CANSA as our charity of choice for this year’s competition. It is a worthy cause and particularly pertinent, as many outdoor enthusiasts battle with skin cancer due to sun damage,” concludes Sinclair.
