Classic Car Show for Charity
The fifth Scottburgh Classic Car Show will be held at the Scottburgh Country Club, KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday 20th July. This hugely successful show has experienced dramatic growth since its inception and this year about 6000 visitors and over 450 vehicles are expected.
Held in aid of local charities, the two primary beneficiaries will be The Society of St.Vincent de Paul which provides relief to the poor and needy – and the Pennington Peoples Community Centre which is an upliftment centre, teaching skills to the unemployed so that they can generate an income.
There will be more than three hours of moving parades of pre-1975 classic cars and motorcycles provided by 35 invited Clubs. This year will feature a new Concours d’Elegance Parade in which club members will dress up in clothes to match the decade of their classic car – there will be R1000 in cash prizes up for grabs but entries are limited. Everyone, both exhibitors and visitors alike are encouraged to dress up in the style of any decade from 40s to the 70s as “spotters” will be looking to award prizes throughout the day to beautifully and appropriately dressed couples/individuals.
“Special accommodation offers” for enthusiasts coming from far-afield are available from various South Coast Tourism members including The Blue Marlin Hotel which has recently been totally renovated.
Austin Healey will be the featured marque this year and a large number of these magnificent British sports cars are expected not only from KZN but also from Gauteng. The Country Club has a large bar and a restaurant but there will be a huge variety of food available on the display field including the very popular Tea Garden and beer tent. All entry details remain unchanged from last year except that only classic cars and all motorcycles will be permitted into the Club grounds. Visitors can park at the Scottburgh High School where three shuttles buses will be available – all free of charge.
