Call for Comments on SA Tourism Amendment Bill

South Africa’s Minister of Tourism, Derek Hanekom, published the Tourism Amendment Draft Bill in the Government Gazette on 15 April 2019. Tourism stakeholders have 60 days (by 15 June) to provide comment.

The Tourism Act, 2014 remains the legislative framework for the management and growth of tourism. The purpose of the Tourism Amendment Draft Bill is to amend the Tourism Act, 2014 in order to:

  • Provide for the alignment of the governance of the South African Tourism Board;
  • Provide for the implementation of the grading system of South African Tourism;
  • Provide for the competence requirements of tourists guides; and
  • Provide for the determination on the threshold for short-term dwelling rentals.

Tourism stakeholders are invited to participate in the drafting of tourism legislation and the Department of Tourism encourages all interested parties to submit comments by the close-off date of Saturday, 15 June 2019.
