Blue Marlin Hotel Revamp Complete
The Blue Marlin Hotel (Blue Marlin) in Scottburgh on KwaZulu-Natal‘s (KZN) South Coast is back on South Africa’s tourist radar. In April 2013, Dream Vacation Club entered into a partnership with the owners and took over the management of the hotel, as well as the responsibility for the extensive renovation work on the first phase of the project, at a cost of R12 million. Phase one included the complete revamp of all the common/public areas and the pool.
Phase 2, which is now complete, included the renovation of the majority of the rooms at a cost of R14million, and has totally transformed the accommodation offering.
“Upgrading The Blue Marlin is the first and most significant tourism infrastructure development in the area in the past 10 years,” says director Sandie Curtis. “It will have a huge impact on the local economy; South Africans are looking for a good quality holiday experience that is affordable and we already have a lot of interest from the UK. Saga Holidays in the UK have contracted a block of rooms from January 2015, and these are filling up quickly.”
“The current exchange rate is making it increasingly difficult for South African’s to travel abroad, so they are exploring local destinations and at the same time, it’s a great opportunity for tourists to visit the country.”
“Scottburgh is the perfect destination – it has everything – from great beaches with warm water, all year round temperate climate, excellent golf and diving nearby and is close to other main attractions.”
Dream Vacation Director, Brent Dickson adds, “South Africa has an abundance of hotels on the upper and lower ends of the accommodation spectrum, but there is a distinct gap in the market for good quality three and four-star properties.”
Whilst the property has been transformed into a modern resort, the directors are determined that The Blue Marlin will not become ‘just another South Coast hotel’
“The Blue Marlin is renowned for providing guests with a place to spend quality time with families and friends,” says Curtis. “It is associated with so many special memories of past holidays, and will continue to offer a haven where people can have fun, relax and relationships can flourish.”
